Modern Egypt
Modern Cairo is a city of 22 million people. The most popular religion is Muslim. Cairo is built on the opposite side of the Nile from the Great Pyramids of Giza. In the 1800's Europeans discovered the fabulous monuments of Egypt because of an expedition by Napoleon. The English came after they defeated Napoleon.

Both countries took great interest in the antiquities, and their "rediscovery" of ancient Egypt led to the development of the tourist industry which is a mainstay of the Egyptian economy today. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is our modern link to the past of Egypt.

Come on, we will walk back into the past of Egypt civilization. It's a long time. Egypt has been an important country for over 5000 years. We won't cover everything, but we will stop at most of the important times. Let's begin with the Mosque of Mohammud Ali of the Ottoman Empire.
