Tutankhamun's
sarcophagus was contained within a nest of gilded wooden shrines. The
shrines were inscribed with magical
funeral texts and images. One author
hypothesizes that because Tutankhamun
died shortly after assuming the throne,
his tomb was unfinished and therefore
a smaller tomb was used. The tomb
itself is not large enough to paint all
the spells on the walls, thus the
inscriptions on the shrines.
